They were runners up in their group winning 2 and drawing 3 games. After winning their quarter and semi finals they played Appleton in a tense final - winning 2-0 with late goals from Adam and Harry. Well done boys.

U9A Winners

We held a Level 2 taster session "coach the coaches" clinic 16th June. Jason Gouk and Gary Biddle both currently doing their Level 2 FA course put some of the Winwick managers and coaches through their paces covering Passing & Support and also defending.

Winwick Under 7's will be taking part in a festival of football organised in conjunction with other Charter Standard clubs in the area on 19th July. Please see attached brochure for more info.

14 Boys and Girls from Winwick Athletic FC were delighted to be invited to assist at the International Learning Disability European Championship match between Sweden and Germany at Curzon-Ashton Stadium, Ashton-under-Lyne and were entertained by some fantastic football. They also enjoyed a glorious sunny afternoon being looked after admirably by Michelle and Steph from Cheshire FA. The boys and girls from Winwick helped to lead the two teams onto the field of play and were photographed alongside their Player during the respective National Anthems. Commemorative T-Shirts and Medals were the reward for the hard work of the children who were also rewarded with compliments on their fantastic behaviour, so parents can all be proud that their children represented Winwick and themselves admirably. For those interested in following the progress of these European Championships through the Semi-Final and Final stages may be interested to look at this web link . Many thanks to Mark Livingston for having set things going earlier in the year down at Power League by encouraging Girls to train with his Mixed U8B Team. The Girls who attended those first 'taster training sessions' are pleasingly still together now and are looking towards competitive matches against other teams from 1st July when they become an U9 Girls Team.

The Girls are now really looking forward to taking part in the Lancashire County FA Festival of Football Event at the County Ground up at Leyland in early May, where they will be mixed with Mark's U8B team to form 2 separate teams. That looks like being a great fun filled day.

Many thanks to Kath Cookson, Brian Cookson and Paul McMahon for helping out at recent training sessions as we move towards establishment of a new Team Manager / Coach for the U9 Girls. The commitment of these Girls to developing their football skills supported by their parents also deserves full recognition. Any other Girls who are still aged 8 on 31st August 2008 are very welcome to come along to join us at Myddleton Lane on Wednesday evenings between 6.30pm to 7.30pm for training. In fact it should always be remembered that ALL Girls can play football in our teams here at Winwick, football is very much NOT a sport reserved for Boys !!

Well done to the Under 9A team for coming runners-up in the Welsh Challenge Cup held at Prestatyn over the bank holiday weekend. They won 3 and drew 1 of their 4 group games. In the final they drew 0-0 with De La Salle, Manchester and eventually lost the penalty shoot out 1-3.

The boys and their families had a fantastic weekend away at the tournament. On the Sunday they received their runners up trophies from ex-Manchester United manager Ron Atkinson.

Check out the Coaching Links page - we've added links to the Lancs FA Coaching Development page and also the NFA Soccer Skills site.

U9B Lancs Tournament

Thanks to everyone (including the weatherman) for making the club fun day a great one this year. We had over 200 children and adults in attendance. The ice cream van and food store were kept busy as were the bouncy castles, soccer challenges and of course the ever popular soccer tennis.
