Report by Administrator
Winwick went down to a heavier defeat than they deserved after a closely contested first half saw the half time score still at 0-0. There were few chances for either side in the first half though in 5 mins. Callum had a shot turned round by the Dragons keeper for a corner as did Joe in 28 mins. Tim set up a few moves making good long throws on the right but the game was largely deadlocked with tussles in midfield where Lewis made a promising debut for Winwick.
At half time Dominic came on for Lewis and 5 mins into the half Andy came on for Matt with James moving into defence.
Two minutes later Callum sent over a good cross with Dominic just unable to get his head on it. With 9 mins. Played Winwick defence did not close down a player quick enough and he shot from what looked an impossible angle giving keeper no chance.1-0 Dragons.
Inspired by this a spell of strong Dragons pressure followed until in 15mins. James shot just wide from a free kick and 4 mins. later the Dragons keeper had a tremendous double save from shots by Callum and James.
In 20 mins. Dragons broke quickly on to a loose ball and scored having drawn out the keeper. 2-0
It could have been 3-0 a minute later but for a fine save from Andy as a Dragons player went one on one with him.
In 23 mins. from a corner a Dragon runs in at the far post to score and two minutes later Dragons score the fourth following a melee in Winwicks penalty area with the ball rebounding off several bodies.4-0
In 27 minutes as Winwick reassert themselves following this Dragons blitz Jonathon has a goal bound shot saved by the keeper who has been in great form whenever Winwick have shots on target.
Winwick continue to press for at least one goal but it looks increasingly unlikely against the best defence they have faced for some time.
The scoring is completed a minute from time when Winwick are caught on the break to make it a 5-0 win for Dragons who were deserved winners on a day when Winwick seemed to have no luck despite putting in a lot of effort especially in the first half.
